Who Can Apply?
Requirements to be Considered for VA-ECAP Credential Program
Level I application requirements:
- 21 years or older.
- Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) - unexpired OR Early Childhood Development Career Studies Certificate (ECD C.S.C.)
Level II application requirements:
- 21 years or older.
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development. (Bachelors and Masters degree in any field will be accepted.)

Core Requirements
- Access to a center-based early learning program to implement theory in practice via course assignments
- Access to a computer with capability to work on WORD & EXCEL documents/scanner/printer/webcam
- Access to high speed internet connectivity
- Valid email address
- Comply with Virginia Community College prerequisites for CHD 120 & CHD 205
SFL's VA-ECAP team will determine required courses for each student during the application process.
Please note: At this time, equivalency courses in lieu of CHD 120, CHD 205, SFL LM 101, and SFL LM 102 are not accepted as requirements for receiving the VA-ECAP Credential.
